Unknown tintype of family or gang members

tintype of unknown family members or gang members

The above tintype is a part of my collection but it is of two unknown gentlemen. It is not known if these are family members or associates of Soapy Smith. I've always let my imagination work overtime with this one, wishing it was Joe Palmer and Joe Simmons.

Does anyone have any clues?

  1. They certainly look like sharpers, don't they?

  2. I agree. It's one of my favorites. It appears that the "gentleman" sitting is wearing a patriotic red, white, and blue bow tie. Soapy was very patriotic so I can just imagine this tintype being taken on the fourth of July in some small town.

  3. It's got to be Joe Simmons. I have one of his brother, Samuel Silas Simmons that is almost the spitting image taken in Stephenville, Texas. Don't know if it will let me send picture through here but I'm happy to share it.
